Pupils from selected schools enjoyed the third meeting in Croatia. After a 9-hour minivan trip, we stayed in a boat, which was the premiere of accommodation on a boat for many of us. Only Bora, the Adriatic wind, disturbed the pleasant environment in Rijeka.
We started the first day with the opening ceremony at the local school. The afternoon program was dominated by a guided city tour, which told us about the history, culture and inhabitants of Rijeka. We learned a lot of interesting things.
The second day began with sports activities, the tournament "Between two fires" (dodgeball). Even though our students were the younger ones among all, they managed to win the first match. In the afternoon we visited the local Astronomical Center in Rijeka. We watched a film about the origin of the universe, we had a lecture on the solar system, and in the end each of us could watch the moon. Again, it was a day full of interesting experience.
On the third day we visited Croatian students during their English lesson. At the beginning, we learned some information about our new friends (age, name), then came our language skills useful. We learned the basic words in Croatian, also explained the terms in Slovak. The language of the week was of course English. Our students did not get lost at all and were the first to get involved in most activities. Among other things, they practiced their Spanish with friends from Barcelona. In the afternoon, our students enjoyed the fun, even a little fear in the Adrenaline Center. They tried zip-line, laser game and had a lot of fun.
On the fourth day, the Bora left us alone and finally we felt warm. In the morning we fought against other teams in “Between two fires“. In the afternoon we walked along Rijeka to Tršať Castle. For some pupils, 561 stairs leading to the castle were a big deal, others ran without any problems. In the afternoon we visited the local beach.
The last day was also very interesting. As the other days, we started with competitions at the local school. Before lunchtime there was an evaluation of the tournament and the presentation of prizes, medals and diplomas. After a short break, we toured the two museums. Who would expect boring museum tours that would be really mistaken. The Peek + poke museum welcomed us with historic computers, play equipment, telephones and other devices that the children could try out. They went back to 30 years ago and tried first-hand games played by their parents as a child - pacman, first fifa, doom and the like. Subsequently, we moved to the Childhood Museum, where we saw old toys, first legions, dolls, which were played by grandparents. The children were convinced that museums can also be interesting and engaging. At the end we had a lunch, folklore program and a disco with karaoke.
We believe that our students enjoyed the week, some did not even want to go home and wanted to stay for another week. Memories of their stay in Rijeka will be remembered for the rest of their lives.
See you in Barcelona.
